Accessibility Design towards the Mental Health Sector, specifically Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In this Tedx talk, I proposed that we could create an application that uses technology to help create virtual therapy sessions, initially under the supervision of a therapist, and eventually on their own. We could use technology to help clients get help on their schedule, and not on their therapist’s schedule. Maybe, we could one day even use technology to detect when a client may need immediate attention, based on their responses or interactions with their therapist.

EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, is a treatment that is commonly used to help those who struggle with Post Traumatic Stress, but can be applicable to many different anxiety disorders. The purpose of EMDR, when used for Post Traumatic Stress, is to help the victims replace the negative feelings associated with their trauma, with positive ones.

EMDR, is a treatment in which a victim may be asked to recall a specific part of their trauma, and during this a therapist will engage the client into side to side eye movement sets which may be accompanied by some sort of stimuli, such as Sounds, Taps, vibrations, or light. The victim has control to stop the treatment at anytime. This treatment re organizes the traumatic events back into their respective place on their timeline. To create an application that incorporates these philosophies, would be very revolutionary to so many trauma survivors and those that struggle with mental health in general.
